CURVE Studios & Garden is celebrating the grand opening of The Project House Gallery @ Curve Studios on Friday, March 13th from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. The Project House Gallery is an intimate gallery space that will be curated Marghe Means, who brings 30 plus years of experience to her role and passion as curator and art consultant. Marghe’s clients have consistently benefited from her unique, seasoned approach, which combines both artistic and business sensibilities with a keen eye for design, and a sincere desire to help others integrate art into their everyday lives. Her past client relationships include some of the region’s most prestigious companies and projects including Northside Hospital-Atlanta, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, The Southern Company, Kaiser Permanente, Coca-Cola Company, Synovus Banks, AFLAC Insurance, Sage Life, MSC Regional Corporate, and numerous residential and private collectors. The Project House Gallery will rotate shows bi-monthly/every other month with openings the Friday evening prior to the Asheville River Arts District Second Saturdays.

The inaugural event at The Project House Gallery is a show entitled “Joy and Gravity”, featuring the work of Atlanta artist, Julie Nellenback Henry. In her words, this body of work seeks to answer the question: how do I create feeling with simple shape, texture and color? Everything in my studio practice right now is growing directly out of that quiet question.

My work is unapologetically flawed, warm and tactile. The collages are meant to be a study of the relationship between restraint and the compulsion to fill space. By employing old, deconstructed fabrics and by sometimes leaving traces of the under-painting, I am inviting the viewer to fall in love with imperfection.

Julie Nellenback Henry is a multi-media artist who creates abstract paintings and assemblage constructions using the strategies of layering, fragmentation and reduction. She strives in her work to blur the relationships between architecture, landscape and the body. In her desire for a timeless expression both aesthetically and emotionally, she constantly mines the seam between what is primitive and what is modern. Henry’s mother was a design student at RIT in the 1960's
and her grandfather was a typewriter engineer for Smith Corona. She credits them both for her love of design. She also credits Thornton Dial as the artist who most influenced her to start painting. The honesty and bravery in his work woke her up to the power of art and helped set the standard by which she judges her own work today. Born in New York state in 1968, Henry’s family moved to the south when she was very young. Today she lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia where she has a devoted studio practice focusing on painting, collage and assemblage sculpture.

Please join us at Curve Studios & Garden to celebrate The Project House Gallery opening reception and meet the artist on Friday, March 13th, 2020 from 5:00pm – 8pm. Julie Henry will also be on hand for an artist talk on Saturday March 14, 2020 at 2pm as part of the River Arts District Second Saturday festivities. The show will be open Monday-Saturday 11-4 through May 7, 2020. The Project House Gallery @ Curve is located at #3 River Arts Place, Asheville, NC 28801.
